Which is more effective in weight loss?
With cardio, you are burning more calories minute by minute, which means weight loss, but it isn’t doing much for your muscles. If you are trying to win a battle with your scale cardio would be the way to go, but it won’t do as much for your muscles.
In an article by Women’s Health Magazine, they did the following study: “In one Penn State study, dieters lost 21 pounds whether they performed cardio or strength training. But for the cardio group, six of those pounds came from muscle, while the lifters lost almost pure fat—and probably fit into their skinny jeans better because of it.”
Strength training is the better way to build more muscle and in turn, lose weight, but don’t turn your back on cardio. Cardio is great to get your heart rate up, relieve stress, and burn fat. Enjoy your workout!
